Hi RFB
During a bewitching hour conversation that Laurie & I were having, last night this morning, at 3AM Oz time, call it what you please. Your CE-2 repair cropped up.
He noticed that you there appears to also be some electrolyte splatter on the MN3101 IC, & possibly other components - look carefully.
We were theorizing that one or more of the larger caps, really let go in a big way, and splattered electrolyte over the insides of the pedal case, & more parts of the PCB.
The caps did have over double their rated voltage applied to them, just before the zener protection diode shorted out & saved the rest of your pedal, hence the violent eruption & splatter of the electrolyte.
We wanted to suggest that while you are working on it. You completely dissemble all the parts out of the pedal. And then thoroughly clean off any splatter inside the case, & over the rest of the board & any other components.
Laurie might pitch in a bit later, with some of his advise?
The electrolyte will corrode the aluminum muck-metal that the Boss case is cast from.
I hope this all makes some sense.
Regards Dr. Bob - After chatting with Laurie.
