So I was always a bit dissatisfied with my current EQ (the Ibanez GEL - while being very versatile it was a bit noisy for my taste)

My main amp doesn't have any Mid control and sometimes I need a little scooping (which I could easily do with the GEL but - yeah - the noise, it even adds a bit of noise when cutting EQ bands how funny is that)

the Yamaha NE-1 got me interested as it's what I want from that special EQ and was said to bee dead quiet.

Super... but it's been out of production for some time now. None are available on Ebay and I only found one dealer in sweden who still had one. Thing is though they don't ship to germany... I already wrote goran a pm asking if he would be willing to help out but then I decided to make some phone research (my own google) instead of only relying on the internet.

And what can I say.... I DID find one. the box was a bit damaged but the unit is in pristine condition and obviously NOS. I got a good price due to the looks of the box and am a happy camper now.

this thing really IS QUIET. it cuts mids and boosts highs and lows at the same time... very cool thing. And gives me the scooped sound when I'm in need of - well - the scooped sound ;) without added noise.

Oh and... it's a bass effect designed for Nathan East - but I use it with guitar.

cheers,
mully

I guess nobody's interested but I can't stop raving about this thing... it sounds good and is dead quiet. I just opened it up and there's really not much to it.

the heart seems to be a JRC 062D IC and there are just a few more components in there....

Hi MullyFX

Boy! does that Parametric Pedal, get some rave reviews...

Did you purchase it new? - How Much, if you don't mind me asking?

Any chance you might upload some other internal pictures from different angles.
Maybe with the battery removed for more clarity.

I did pay 70 new...

it's a bit more complicated to take photos of this one however here are two more I took.

the only downside is that it only can be powered with a battery but apart from that it's amazing.

I can see why you are raving, have been using two since 2004. But I do not like 'em for guitar: They are too much, just over the top sound really.

I guess I can compare them to many other things, that is why I do not like 'em for guitar. For bass they are excellent and yep, very quiet.

I tend to use the shallow mode, as the deep is, yep again, over the top really. They also compress, and that is what I may not like when I use them for guitar.

Did not know they did not make them anymore. I bought it mainly because of it being a parametric EQ, and it is the only one I have, but since then I have bought so many more equalizers and enhancers that I feel the need for more parametrics is just surplus.

Just a sidenote on the batt. powered: They will last you a long long time!!

let me know if you wanna sell yours (or one of them.... I even have some lovely BOSS pedals to trade http://www.hundeschule-vianova.de/integratedsurplus/)

Might just be my amp and my open back 1x10 cabinet - but it's a match made in heaven for me.

cheers,
mully

Mully,

I have seen your site and there are some great pedals on there.

I probably do not want to sell any of the NE-1's as I do use both of them.

My comments on use for guitar go back to my observations from a few years ago, and as you know people grow, change their minds ect. ect. so will play with it again and see how I feel these days.

I think one of the weak parts of the NE-1 is that you cannot switch it off. Natan East probably uses rackgear and has the NE-1 all the time in his chain. It may be quite common for bassplayers to leave their pedals on all the time since the pedals are there to improve your overal tone rather than being used as a momentory effect [as what people do with guitar] I am no different when it comes to playing bass in that respect.

For bass I use an Aphex comressor, then the Boss GEB-7 and then the NE-1. The NE-1 is for tweaking the overal EQ and a bit of boost.

The Flat Mode puts the effect in the bypass mode, but the overal volume is still controled by the NE-1.

When I tested how much the NE-1 effected you signal I used a NS-2 and put the NE-1 in one of the loops to see how much the sound changed. By using it in this way you can take the NE-1 completely out of the signalpath [but there is still the NS-2 so really................]

tbh I leave it on all the time now.... I switch to shallow for a more vintage type of tone and deep for a more modern type of tone.

My amp is simply very mid heavy and doesn't have a mid control so the NE-1 is perfect for that.

that being said when using overdrive stompers I like it best without the NE-1

Hi MullyFX & Guys

Dumb question.
Has anyone seen the schematic for this unit?
It looks just way too easy to clone.

Never seen one of these out here in Oz.

Hi MullyFX

Will you please post a copy of your pics, into the pedal internals thread.

It appears that, thanks to you,
Bossarea is currently the only site, that has internal pictures of the Yamaha NE-1.

Regards & thanks

Hi Mully,

Have had some time to use the NE-1 for guitar and I like it too.
What I mentioned about the pedal before was based on my experience a while ago.

I like it on all settings, the deep setting does something very special when you use it for humbucks in a clean setting.

I have also been using an amp without any midcontrols, but I have quite a few amps and overal I like using pedals for the smaller and simpeler amps.

I will be using the NE-1 for guitar from now on more often. The sound reminds me of an enhancer, but then I am interested in effects I can use all the time like enhancers, compressors, graphic equalizers and exhiters.

What I mentioned before about the Boss NS-2 was, off course, a mistake, it should have read the LS-2.

You may also be interested in trying the Boss EH-2 and other enhancers and exhiters.
Cheers

Mully ,

Thanks to your previous post about this pedal I have been using it for guitar now since you brought up this topic, really like it, very smooth and quick. When using graphic EQ's it takes a little longer to get your sound, also they seem to sound harsher.

Overal quite happy to use it for guitar now, do not use the deep setting much as I found this a bit over the top, but the shallow setting is great for adding that touch of extra to your sound.

Thanks again for pointing it out.

Hi MullyFX

Just a quick heads up.

The NE-1 links, to your image hosting site, don't seem to work any more.
Mail them to me & I will add them to your uploads folder if you like.

Regards Dr. Bob
