I may have the use of a friends nice new 12 string Yamaha acoustic for a few months because they are moving east and he doesn't want to take it through the mountains in the car. There will be no room in the interior of the car and the cold will probably ruin it, so I am going to keep it until the summer. Does anyone have any technique tips or know any good sites for 12 string? Any favorite songs for 12 string?
Bought a 12 string acoustic last year, really great guitar and a beautiful sound,i too lent mine out to a friend who never had a go of one before and have only got it back last weekend,i like mine so much bought a fishman preamp and pickup for it to use it on gigs.....i like dropping the botton E down to D for Neil Youngs'Harvest Moon' really sounds great on the 12... the intro to Wish you were here by the floyd also sounds spot on with the 12,as it's a 12 on the original recording...anything by the Byrds and the intro to 'Hotel California' ..also the music shop employees favourite..'stairway to heaven'...My sweet lord by George Harrison is a favourite of mine.....
A thing i picked up from watching some 12 string players was they tune the whole guitar down to D...the reason i found out after a quick google on the net was it takes some of the strain off the neck with the extra strings...might be an idea to ask your friend what way he keeps his tuned....
I, like Franzoni am fond of "Wish You Were Here" on a 12, but I also like to try playing all sorts of stuff that is difficult or not usually done on a 12.
I've found that arpeggiated stuff sounds good, but you need to adjust your technique for more downstrokes to get the 12 sound. I've found Radiohead's "Street Spirit" sounds awesome...
I also like to tackle (mostly unsuccessfully) lead riffs that are usually played on a 6 string electric... Maybe some Hendrix... I just like the way it sounds...

I love the version of Cocaine that Nazareth did on Fool Circle and It's SNaz. Think it's Zal Cleminson who plays 12 string on it. Would like to play it myself but it's too hard for me.
