How do you love compression, and not dig a Dyna Comp? It is the standard 'cheap' pedal, and not very different fromt the $$$ Ross or even the Keeley. With Keeley you spend an extra $150 for better capacitors and a 3PDT footswitch. Man oh man, a Dyna Comp is cheap (in price and parts quality), but it works.
Put it this way; there's 912 known mods for the CS-3, and how many for the Dyna Comp? That's all I need to know.
Hey, don't get me wrong. I have a dozen compressor pedals and a handful of rack mount units as well. And the Dyna Comp isn't anywhere near the top of anyone's list, including mine. But it is a great bang-for-the-buck compressor. It works, and it doesn't add a lot of noise or distortion to my signal. Try saying that about a CS-3 with a straight face.

I'm just saying, the Dyna Comps not anything to get your panties in a wad over. If I didn't already have a compressor, I would consider it. As it stands, I have a CS-3 and think it gets me where I want to be. When I am recording, I don't generally run more than a few pedals so noise is not a huge problem. The more pedals I run, the more noise I get. So, I keep it simple. I don't play live. If I did, I would have a rack.

I would like to try a CS-2.

In your opinion, what is the best compressor? Give me rack and pedal form. I would like to check a few more out.

Another factor is I was playing through their gear at their store. Who knows, at home it may have been a whole different ball game. Also I didn't say that I didn't like the Dyna Comp. I just didn't like it enough to buy it considering I'm happy with my CS-3.

I want a CS-2, and I'd pay 50 euro incl shipping, but it doesn't seem enough...

Keep in mind these are just my opinions. I have three pedal boards going right now , and I change my mind as often as a woman. I may take out board #1 today, and be happy. Or, I may get mad at something, and put it back in the closet and out comes board #2. Or board #3. Like I say, my mood can change at the drop of a hat (I know, they make pills to fix that).
For me, and my mild-mannered tastes, the Diamond CPR-1 is about as good as it gets. Yes, it has a fixed threshold and a fixed compression ratio. But it will make your guitar fat (in a good way), it's quiet (even with the EQ cranked to treble), and the green LED turns orange and gets brighter to indicate the amount of compression taking place. Pretty cool. That's why it's on board #1. Board #2 has a BBE Opto-Stomp right now. However, sometimes rather than swap whole boards, I swap one or two pedals. And if the BBE comes out, the EBS Multicomp goes in. Really f'ing quiet. However, some people may get bummed out that the attack is fixed. So be it. It sounds great.
Board #3 is my 'cheap' board to take to jams and not worry if I spill a beer on it (although I try my best not to). I don't mean a cheap tone, but a throw-together board with pedals that are easily replaced without breaking the bank. That's where the Dyna-Comp goes, but it can get pulled for an EH Soul Preacher, a Marshall ED-1, or even a really cheap Guyatone ST-2. Other pedals I have that can go on either board include an old Tokai TCO-1, a Boss CS-1, a Carl Martin Opto-Compressor, and a Jacques Fat Burner.
For rack stuff, it's tough to beat dbx. I have a 166 and a cheap 266, and they both sound fine. I also have an 80's DOD 866. It has the dbx chips inside, so it's like owning another dbx.
My motto? Buy everything, keep what you like, and flip over what you truly despise. That experience is way better than trusting the opinion of someone you don't know over a BBS Forum. Yes, that includes me. Just because I own everything doesn't make me smart. Just broke.
