as usual, when i can't sleep, i go to my shop and mod. this is what i've done to my ds-1 as of june 26 my time:
D4 changed to 1n4001 D5 changed to 1n4005
C10 changed into a silver colored cap marked with "153J" C3 changed to cap marked 104 which i think i know is a 1uf
the sound> IMO louder volume, marshall type gain, bigger lower/bass end and some loss to mids and highs altho can be remedied by turning the tone to 12:00 or higher. i think the pedal now sounds fuller.

Hi LDR!!
- the "153" cap is a 0.015F, so a little bit more capacitance than the standard C10 (0.01F) - will make the distortion milder (this is the mid+high loss) - the "104" is a 0.1F, which probably won't make a huge difference from the stock value of 0.47F. Change it to a "105" to open it up a bit more. - the 1n4001 and 1n4005 are essentially identical (difference is the reverse breakdown voltage), and are silicone like the stock diodes. They will be the cause of the tonality change.

the changes on the clipping diodes will be big.
rectifer diodes vs. switching diodes
1N4001's will always sound more marshall like than a 1N4148. lot more chunk.

hello, september 21. i changed C12 with a cap marked with "223k" and it opened up the mids, kind of like the tubescreamer mid hump as opposed to the stock scooped mids of the ds-1. question: does a big red LED give a different sound compared to a small red LED if used as a clipper in D5?

hi macoy, nice to see a fellow pinoy here. my mods are actually an ongoing experimentin trying to find the sound i want. i look at the mod shere then try to copy it or do something to make it better. i play with the values of the components to see if it makes a difference. i havent visited philmusic in a long while. mostly i lurk here in bossarea and tdpri .
