I'm a tone freek, allways striving for that perfect guitar tone. Maybe some day I'll nail it but, if I could steal anyone's tone.... it would be Stevie Ray Vuaghan's

Hi TKO Ken
One word: Goosebumps...
He used very heavy strings 13's I believe, & a 2 or 3 amp multi-amp setup. And tuned down at least a half step. And hell of a lot feeling.
TKO Ken - When you get lose to nailing it, let me know.
Regards Dr. Bob

   - I know the exact feeling.
One of my muso friends has a mid to late 90's SRV Strat. But I have never played it.
I must remember to visit him soon, & ask for a play of it.

| The guitargeek notes says his guitar neck was fretted with bass guitar frets! I guess if you are using those heavy gauge strings it might be necessary. Anyone know if his signature guitar has bass guitar frets? |

Gilmour.
If I could get only 10% of the feeling and tone I'd die happy. Think the solo in Comfortably Numb on Delicate Sound of Thunder. |

I suppose i'm a little bit in between all of them....Eric Johnson's is also good as is Claptons...basically i'm into the midrange fat sound that they get..i'm not really into 'scooped' sort of guitar tones as i feel they just get lost in the mix....what i like about all these guys is that their cleans sounds are every bit as good as the lead ones.... |

Gilmour...... love his style, in IMHO the TRUE Slow Hand!! his playing packs the most punch with the least notes. Something that's tough to do, for me any way. |

Hey Dr. Bob, Here's a pict of my lil' pride and joy! I built her from parts I picked up on eBay.
1986 Fender neck aftermarket body SRV Strat guard jack and neck plate Mex strat tremolo and boutique pups that ohm out the same as '50's strat's
Here's a little taste of what she sounds like. I'm playing through a Digitech RP7 into a POS Yahama solid stat amp with a single 12"

i've had a few sounds stand out in my mind over the years...
here's a few tones i've tried to emulate a bit.
high gain "tight" dirty sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYuZyQVkHQM 1st guitar = les paul studio into 2 Orange OD120's and 2 Orange 4x12's boosting with an MXR distortion+ and cranked to deafening volumes. 2nd guitar = fender prodigy II into 2 Hiwatt HG100's and 2 Hiwatt 4x12's boosting with an MXR distortion+ and cranked to similar volumes.
high gain "open" dirty sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_gVEx571v0 70's SG standard into a JCM800 cranked.
my "clean" clean tone is/was usually something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdfhJXV5kgU strat/tele types through something clean w/ some slow modulation.
my bass tone was modeled after the "brighter" bass sound in this band (granted, i've since sold my expensive basses and my bass rig): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnIwH_F_ZYc i know this isn't the typical bass sound but i also played bass in a band that was similar styled to that band.

Actually! it looks a little like my lab bench... Before I purchased my storage cases.
BTW, that's a nice SRV Strat, you built, & it sounds pretty good on the video. I bet it would kick some serious butt, into my Fender 75 tube amp.
