Miky my man.. that is awesome work. The links look like they were meant to be used for that purpose. Makes me second-guess my pedal board purchase

I too use a Pedaltrain, for Boss Pedals I have unscrewed the back plate and flipped it over, leaving me with a smooth metal plate to apply the velcro. (& keeping my CE-2's Green Label safe, along with all my other pedals)

oh my god miky that looks perfect

i went to home depot today to look for something similar to the kits on ebay and came up with nothing

so... how much does a bike chain and a chain breaker cost in the states?

I would suggest that you look around for some biker. These chains last like a thousand miles and then have to be replaced so I used to have a bucket full of chains in the garage... Or you may as well ask a technician in a bike store to give you an old chain or, if he is kind enough, cut a handful of links from it. Buying a new chain and a breaker would probably be more expensive than the ebay thing, though I have no idea what the prices are in the US on these things.

that's a good point, those kits on ebay are relatively cheap unless i could get someone to toss me an old chain. nice work, though. it turned out great.

i've been thinking (been known to do it from time to time) and rather than use the bike links or kits on johnnyshredfreak, what's stopping me from drilling the board and then screwing the pedals directly to it with some longer screws? anyone see potential issues with this?

dude just do what I said:

I use a pedaltrain, I unscrew the backplates of Boss pedals and turn them over - I then screw the back.

You then have a smooth metal surface, ideal for attaching velcro...

that won't exactly work for all of the pedals, like my ps-5. it has two metal tabs on the pcb that go between the case and the bottom plate.

this gets in the way of the rubber pad if i try to flip it. i have a couple other pedals with these tabs. can anyone tell me why the tabs are there?

Hi jackderringer & Guys
quote:

Long Tech'o version:
The tabs are connected to the GND/Ground/Earth of the circuit board.
When the back is on, they connect to the metal of the back plate,
providing the plate with a good GND/Ground/Earth connection.
Which in turn, provides shielding for the sensitive Digital & Analog circuitry inside/on the circuit board.
The cast metal case provides the rest of the shielding.

Technically they are trying to make a Faraday Cage for the PCB.
As in Michael Faraday, here are some links for the Technically minded:
http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid14_gci942282,00.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage
http://www.juliantrubin.com/bigten/faradaycageexperiments.html
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-faraday-cage.htm

=== Excerpt from the first link ===
DEFINITION
A Faraday cage is a metallic enclosure that prevents the entry or escape of an electromagnetic field (EM field).
An ideal Faraday cage consists of an unbroken, perfectly conducting shell.

=== End ===

Simple version:
It makes the back plate a shield for the PCB.

Simple Analogy:
It's just like adding copper foil shielding to the cavity of a Strat,
to lower & reduce/minimize external hum & noise pickup.

Heading in a completely different direction, I've been seeing "new product" announcements in the guitar mags lately. Somebody is making plastic spacers for stompboxes that with screw holes that line up. I think the idea is, you pull the screws out, cover the pedals' bottom plate with this thing, then replace the screws. The velco goes on the removable plastic thingie instead of the pedal bottom.

I think.

Hi Rich_S
Sounds interesting
Do you have any links to these, or their distributors?
Or perhaps any pics?
