Well folks, was wondering if anyone got ripped off by an eBayer who you paid and never got your item for . Or you ended up getting your money back and what kind of hassle or no hassles you went through.

This happened to me, so after exhausting ebay and paypal (seller cleverly put me off until day 45 after the auction ended) and square trade, the odd email that never got answered, sorry I sent the wrong package, blah blah , it turns seller was in small town of about 800 in midwest USA. SO, I googled the town and I called the Sheriff's office and asked if they would help with "internet fraud", and they went and tracked down the seller for me, and suggested jail time jail time was in order for ripping people off, and you'd never believe it but I got my money back by way of US POSTAL money order about a week after I spoke to the Detective. (5 months after I sent the money in the first place). The detective offered to help and never in a million years did I figure the detective would actually help. And he figging got me my money back (about $100.00). I sent him a treat and a card !

As far as the offending eBayer goes, there was no bad feedback about 17 transactions. The only Hiccup was the history was relatively small value items (DVD's or computer games) and now that I think about it, he offered a 30 day warranty. So there was nothing there to think the fella was NOT going to ship.

Anything else to do to prevent rip offs?

I've been fortunate so far; have never been taken -- there was one time when the payment I mailed got lost, but it was my fault (typo in the address caused it to be returned). I had already resent payment and was in the process of getting a refund on the money order, which would have set me back $12.00, but luckily it came back and I was able to cash it in full.

Only one real problem on Ebay :

I bought a Carvin guitar last summer, waited two months but still no guitar. The seller was nice and comprehensive, so I opened a litigation on Paypal just to be sure but knew he will do his best.
It's been six month now and I still don't have the guitar nor the money. The seller says he's always far from the country (which I have been able to confirm) and the refund process is taking ages with USPS. On the other hand, my litigation on Paypal has disappeared and when I tried to open a new one they said it is too late now

Other than that, I had a few sellers sending bootleg CDs instead of original ones, and another seller that had a guitar for sale which ended around 150$, never put a reserve price and then sent rude emails to me because I left negative feedback after he refused to confirm the transaction

Another nice story to tell... I've just received what was supposed to be an OD-2r with box and papers. I open the package, and it is an OD-2 in an NS-2 box :)
And the seller took one month before sending it !!!

I've been lucky so far.
I've lost 2 pedals in the mail but no one has tried to rip me off.

While we're on the subject:

...not exactly germane to Boss Pedals, but just some common sense things to keep aware of.

I won a Super Distortion and Feedbacker and a PSM5 in January, I've just recieved a full refund from Paypal. Seller mailed me to give me a shipping price, and then stopped answering emails. there were at least 7 of us that got ripped off, i know 3 people have had refunds from paypal.

What pissed me off more was that there was a SF&D version on at the same time, reasonable BIN, and it didn't go. I was desperate to get the earlier text version

I sold a pedal to a guy in Singapore, and at first had no problem. He sent the money, I sent the pedal. A few months later I get a charge back statement from Paypal saying I have to pay the money back because the credit card used to pay for the item was stolen. I sent the guy numerous emails and he kept saying it is a problem he is having with his bank and that he would pay me by money order or wester union. No luck.

A little update... The seller of the OD2 first agreed to refund the pedal. 2 weeks later, I still had no news about him, so I sent an email and he said it will take a few more weeks. So, in order to be protected, I opened a litigation with ebay, stating that the seller was nice and agreed for the refund. It's been 2 other weeks now and I still haven't received any money. So I emailed the seller and he answered "you opened a litigation with ebay so now resolve your problem with them".

You were right to open a litigation with eBay, ther sellers response is immature at best, You need to cut and paste the sellers reply in your case with eBay resolution. That is sure the cause the seller some problems.

Let us know how this works.
