at the moment I'm using my old favourite E-A-D-A-B-E being a one guitar band i find that bringing the G up to A adds an extra tone when playing bar chords and makes it sound a bit fuller
the first band I was in I had 2 guitars, one tuned down to B-E-A-D-G-B and the other in Drop-D
the next band i used the E-A-D-A-B-E half the time and D-A-D-A-B-E the other half
i think the last time i used standard tuning was when i was learning in the 80s ;)
I tune down to "C" and use the biggest strings I can fit through the bridge/machine heads. This tuning works much better on my 25 1/2 scale strat type guitars vs. the shorter scale LP guitars.
Remember Nibbles contrary to popular belief, there is more neck tension associated with thicker strings than thinner ones, FYI. Its a GOOD thing you tune down.
I mostly tune down a half step to D#. And have hipshot detuners on my basses, cause I'd like to tune to Drop D (or C# when you tune down a half step) for a couple of songs.
However, my crappy acoustic guitar is in regular tuning, it seems to sound a little better that way, I also have to tape the A string tuner in place, cause it rattles like an old man's fake teeth.
