Hi!
As I wrote in another thread (http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9122) I have a LM-2 since Wednesday that does not work properly. A member suggested that a few capacitors could be faulty. I made a few shots of the circuit board last night:
Have a look at C2! Are that leavings of hot glue or is it possible that the capacitor is leaking? I don't know how a dead capacitor looks like. I'm not a technician, I just want to make music.  |

it looks to me that it is leaking
is the top and/or bottom of it bulging up?
and FYI....
if it is leaking and you replace it, replace it with one of the same value and voltage...if you cant find one with the same voltage you can use one with a higher voltage..just dont go lower with the voltage.... |

| Hi, Kelmaur! I can't see a bulge on either side. But I'll search in a box in the basement if I have got a fitting capacitor. Don't worry! I am not THAT noob concerning electronics! It says 16V and 10�F and I will replace it with an exact matching piece! |

A friend of mine just told me that this capacitor does not leak. At least it does not look like leakage to him and he is an ace when it comes to electronics (he builds effects and synthesizers on his own!). He is sure that this is just glue.
What are VR5 and VR6 good for? Does anybody know what these trim pots affect? |

im a learning noob somewhat..i used to know this stuff a little better and have been trying to learn from my wife ( she has an Electronics Technician degree)but she is a little rusty also..she hasnt worked in the field in about 6 years..you know "you dont use it,you lose it"...that is where she is at now....for the past 6 or so years she has been working in her other degreed field (Bio Chemistry..she is a lab tech..messes with urine,misc. bodily fluids
not meaning to gross you out or anything |

i have never heard of a capacitor that doesnt leak..they charge up and down so frequently, over time something has to give |

I didn't get it wrong, don't worry! My wife works in the Bio-Chemistral field as well.

Yes, that is true, no doubt! But my friend said that this one doesn't look to have been leaking until now.
So what are the functions of the trim pots? Does anybody know if I could calibrate something to let the noise disappear? |

Oh, thanks a lot! The better version of it was the demo I made at home. In my YouTube channel you can see them both plus a few other gear demonstrations.

As I wrote in the other thread:
I gave the LM-2 to a friend on sunday and he gave it back to me this (or better said: last) evening. He changed the six eloctrolyte capacitors and now the noise has almost completely disappeared! 
It still makes a certain noise, but only when set at a much higher volume level than before. I couldn't hear the noise when I played without distortion a few minutes ago and my multi effect pedal was set to absolute maximum input and output levels! My FZ-2 rumbled like mad when I first tested the Limiter last week. Now it's just a bit noisy when I turn the Fuzz gain to 2:00h or so, but that's okay! If I need high gain distortion I can switch off the Limiter. Limiting before high gain distortion doesn't make any sense to me anyway.
But does anyone of you know what the trim pots are good for? |
