Hi all
I'm listening to a good bit of mike landau and scott henderson these days (mostly from what i can find on yotube) and i noticed both are big fans of the maxon SD-9 and are getting great tones from it..from what i can find out in reviews it's a lot like a DS-1,SH had a analogman DS-1 on his board for a while but has gone back to the SD-9... anyone out there on the forum got one...? and a DS-1 to compare it to...? some say it's a bit louder than the DS-1.... |

FZ, I have a couple of those. I think one is a Maxon and one an Ibanez. One was a trade and the other from Ebane.
The Ebane item is Analogman - modded, and if you go to their site there is a lengthy page covering the SD-9...
I recall that the Analogman version is a darn nice pedal.
Hope this helps. |

Cheers for that bro'... ...if it's not too much trouble how would you compare it to the DS-1 ..i saw the stuff over on analogmans site..scott henderson the jazz/fusion guitarist is a big fan of the SD-1 as is Mike Landau the session player... scott used the analogman DS-1 for a while but seems to have gone back to the maxon...he gets a great jeff beck type tone from it.... |

I think that Mike describes the SD-9 as an "SD-1 with more hair" or something like that.
To my ear it doesn't sound like the DS-1 much at all although you could probably find some overlap with the (stock) DS-1 cranked down pretty far and the SD-9 cranked up pretty far...
I'm probably going to sell one of my SD-9 (the stock one) here in the near future because I don't need two.
When that happens I'll list everything here first before it goes on eBay, so you folks will have first crack at them.
Hope life in Ireland goes well! |

Hi Franz,
A good mate of mine had one of these for a while - pretty beaten up I remember. Was a while ago but it sounded like a wider-frequency tube-screamer if that makes sense - more top and bottom end.
A Keeley TS-9 sits in my live rig now, so I'm used to that sound and I'm sure the SD-9 still had that mid-hump typical of a TS - more so through Les Pauls than strats but, overall, it was a good sounding pedal.
I've been after one on ebane for yonks. We need to make sure we don't bid against each other if Disco Stu puts his on there - you can have first dibs on it - I've got plenty more pedals on my 'want it list' ! |

No problemo bro'... if it comes up for grabs go for it. .i've gone a bit nuts with the G.A.S. lately so i'm going to take a little break for the sake of domestic bliss... i'm going to go try my MIJ DS-1 and a HM-2 i got as part of a package when i bought my CE-2 first...i'm going to try using one of these in place of my CS-3 for a while in front of my SD twintube, and use the twintubes rhythm/crunch channel as a clean tube booster and it's lead channel as usual...Thomann have the maxon SD-9 for 129 euro ....as far as i know Maxon still use the same chip as the original so i can grab one later if i miss out on Disco Stu's one... |
