Have you ever bought a pedal with great reputation and when it is in your possession you dont like it at all, Boss or not Boss? I mean a hyped pedal, and there are many out there.
For myself I was really disappointed by TS808 Reissue, I had expected a sound as sweet as I never heard before I have never tried an original TS808 but from what Ive heard they are about the same as the reissues. Regarding Boss I must say that VB-2 was a disappointment too, expensive and a lot of people swear by it. But I have never liked it, well maybe when the settings are really moderate.
SP-1 and SG-1 are also expensive pedals, but few say that this is really good and usable pedals.

id say thats the case for the FT-2. i dont see it really. same with the CS-2... its good but i dont see why it gets large amounts of love. FZ-3 is another one. on HC i think it has a better rating than the FZ-2. dont get me wrong, these 3 pedals are good if not great, but just not for me.
and theres some that i "grew out" of. sometimes pedals that i used to use exclusively just dont cut it anymore. i dont know if my musical tastes have changed or if my playing has matured but one such as the MT-2. i used to love cranking to 10 but lately ive been more into "tone" |

| I cannot remember the brand names, but there are a few 'boutique' pedal makers out there with 2 year waiting lists...now maybe the pedals are worth the wait, but how many people fall into the hype of "Well if people are waiting 2 years to get this pedal, it must be good"? |

I'd say the NEW ProCo Rats. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Rats, but the new ones that they are cranking out (made in China to boot) are NOTHING like the older ones. I still have 4 Rats (1 is out on a semi-permanent loan, a Vintage Reissue rat)... an '86 small-box Rat, a '90's Rat II, and an original Turbo Rat, and the new Rat II's are much more harsh, thin, and anemic sounding. My advice is to try before you buy, and to check eBay! I had gotten a new Rat II before all the others, so the older Rats I have acquired now in no way slanted my opinion. Rats are very hyped, and deservedly so, but try out different models and ages if you can.
I agree with the Tubescreamers...they are decent OD's but much too pricey imo. As for Boss, I'm probably gonna get tanked for this one, but I say the SD-1. I just could never really get on with it, and I had held on to it for a few years before I let it go. Many love it, but it just didn't work out for me. |

well, i had heard so many awful reviews on the XT-2 that i was disappointed when i liked it...no joke...i thought it was going to be abrasive and unusable and i really love it now...the irony...
and um...i'd have to say the DS-1...say what you want but it's just, i don't know, almost boring...but that's just me...i mean i've had one for years and i've never said to myself, "wow that sounded great..." when i play it...don't get me wrong it's solid and everything just a bit dull for my taste... |

Hi Guys
I have a (Hate-Give it another go) relationship with my MZ-2 Digtal Metalizer. I wrote about this in a post last year.
Enough said ..

I think a DS-1 is like a capo you need to own one even if you hardly use it |

Seconded about the RAT pedals. I've had a RAT2, and a vintage RAT, and both had an ear-splitting high mid spike that I couldn't get rid of regardless of where the controls were set.
Admittedly, I do play a bright sounding guitar, but so far I've found them unuseable (as have the other players who I've palmed them off on to). We don't know how players such as Graham Coxon can use a RAT 2 with a Telecaster - with the new RATS its a painful noise. I guess the old ones are better.... |

I was looking for a better "Harder" distortion. I dropped my older Rat2 and got a pair of DS-1's (one Keeley & Analog Man) in the end I didn't dig either of the DS-1's and went back with my Rat. I am happier than ever with my sound....
Just tieing the other posts together |

What's your problem with the FT-2?

I've tried quite a few different envelope filters (Qtron, TW-1, MXR) and was blown away by the versatility and sound of the FT-2 - I guess for me the exp pedal function is the big bonus... It's certainly (imho) miles ahead of the TW-1 which has a good rep with some people on this board. |
