hey eveyone. i have an SD-1 MIJ. it has painted edges, black screw, ACA label. however when i put the number in the serial number decoder, it says "unknown." the serial nubmer is 023000.
The serial number decoder still isn't perfect. When Boss went from 4 to 6 digit serial numbers I assumed the numbers went 0400- 0500 - 06xx00 - 07xx00. As you've found out, this theory doesn't hold. I've collected an awful lot of serial numbers and I've found PH-1Rs with serial numbers 032900 and 048600, CE-2s with 041300 and 054000 and now your SD-1 has 023000. All of these break the earlier theory. There's also the 5 digit serial numbers to consider. Was 0100 really used at the same time as 10100? I'm not sure.
It would be easy to assume that the serial numbers instead went 0400-0500 - 01xx00 - 02xx00 but that would push back the production dates 5 months and it we would have production starting around April - May 1977. Maybe that is the case though?
I think the 6 digit serial number dating is more or less spot on right now. The 4 digit numbers may be a little off. If you count backwards from 06xx00 you will find that 02xx00 decodes to January 1981. I think that's very close to the truth.
