Dr. Bob, I had my TU-2 powered by one of the 9v outputs on a DC Brick, then daisy chained to a MIJ DS-1 then the DM-2. Thats when I started smelling the burn smell. I have run plenty of Boss pedals thru the DC Brick, so it's interested to me that it happened like this.
I'd check the output voltage of the plug-pack. If it's up near 15V (some of them are) that would take out the diode.

| Here's an update. Got the diode in the mail today. Soldered it in and then plugged it in... nothing. No LED, no effect... the sound just passes thru. While I had the diode completely out of the circuit, I plugged the pedal into a PSA adapter and it worked. But, now that the diode is in, it doesn't work. The area around the diode looks a little burnt and the metal tracking has started to come up a little. Is this diode the one that you take out when doing the ACA to PSA mod?? If so, would I just be better taking it out and doing that mod? Thanks for your help! |

| Ok, so from some more researching that I've done, I think I may have soldered the diode in reverse. The cathode band is placed in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the board. Would that be correct? |

Almost certainly in reverse - the end with the band goes to the track that is at 9VDC. The side with no band goes to ground.

AHHHHH (Sigh of relief) I finally got it! I reversed the diode and now it works perfectly! The board doesn't look that pretty as I've never soldered a pedal before. At both solder points the tracking came up, but I was able to solder both points down. Thank you guys for all your help in resurrecting this wonderful pedal! Now, I'm off to enjoy it! |
